Shamwari Game Reserve

Shamwari Game Reserve is one of the most successful private conservation projects in Southern Africa. Lodges at Shamwari Private Game Reserve

At the top end of the accommodation is the sophisticated Eagles Crag Lodge which provides a exclusive, luxury 5* safari accommodation. Rocky cliffs surround the lodge contrasting with the lush vegetation and contemporary glass and stone construction. There are just 9 junior suites, each air conditioned with a private, heated plunge pool and deck.

Popular with honeymooners is the luxury tented accommodation at Bayethe Lodge. The name for this Shamwari lodge comes from the African greeting, pronounced “By-ye-ti”. The nearest translation is “I salute you” and is one of the warmest welcomes in the African culture in this area of  South Africa.

Bayethe Tented Lodge offer a luxurious tented experience, this is certainly not camping as we know it!  The lodge is surrounded by the rich vegetation of this unique location that provides privacy and a feeling of seclusion with spectacular views of the African bush. Each of the 12 detached tented rooms can sleep a maximum of 2 adults and have their own private plunge pol and deck. En suite bathrooms include showers (indoor and outdoor) and baths. Some suites have a fire place. In addition to the individual tents, the lodge also offers a communal area, in which the facilities include:

During South Africa’s summer season, Shamwari Game Reserve offers tented accommodation at it’s Explorer Camp. Not as sophisticated at Bayethe, accommodation, but each tent is still luxuriously furnished for comfort in the wilderness.  Each tent has been uniquely decorated and equipped with all the amenities required, such as:

• Comfortable beds and bedding
• LED light for night time use
• En-suite bathroom facilities
• Outdoor hand wash basin
• Insect repellent

The Explorers camp  is discreetly fenced for safety reasons but retains true safari ambiance. The tents are placed in close proximity without encroaching on the other tents privacy.

Guests can enjoy guided walking safaris of the surrounding land, allowing you to get up close and personal with nature. The bush camp itinerary comprises a minimum of a 2-night stay with an optional 3rd night on request.  The camp only operates from October to April.

Culinary feasts are presented around the camp fire with full silverware. And best of all, guests wake up to tea or coffee, served in front of their tents each morning. There is also a classic portable bar with crystal glassware to enjoy the traditional gin and tonic on the viewing deck.
